The Johor Bahru Lutheran Church is located along Taman Pelangi in Johor Bahru. Established in 1978, the Johor Bahru Luterhan Church was born after Rev Yang Dao Tung came to Johor Bahru to visit some of the members who had relocated from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. He came in his capacity as the chairman of the LCMS Mission Committee together with several other members.
During his trip, he found that the members here would need a pastor to lead them and decided that to set up a base in Johor Bahru. In August that year, Rev Yang and Rev Paul Yap found a place temporarily as a venue for the congregation to hold a service. This was done on the 13th that month with more than 10 members in attendance.
Through the grace of God and the help of several parties who visited JB, a land was purchased and the church grew by leaps and bounds ever since. In 1981, the new church building was opened by Bishop Fong officially and underwent several changes and even setbacks to get to where it is today. The Johor Bahru Lutheran Church would continue to provide the avenue and place for Christians to come together in worship and fellowship. Sunday worship sessions are held weekly at 10.00am while the children’s Sunday School is held at 10.30am.
Besides that, the Praise and Worship session is held on Saturday mornings with prayer meetings held on Tuesday evenings for members to come together in prayer and sharing.
